COASTGUARDS were called to help a woman who suffered an injury while walking on the coast path in west Dorset.

On Saturday afternoon, West Bay Coastguard were called to the St Gabriel’s area of Golden Cap after a woman had slipped and fallen, sustaining injuries to her arm and wrist.

Seven rescue officers from the West Bay Coastguard team immediately responded to the incident.

A West Bay Coastguard spokesperson, said: “As the exact location of the casualty was unclear, the ambulance service parked at a car park in the general incident area while the Coastguard vehicle headed off towards the western side of Golden Cap to start a search.

“The casualty and her companion were spotted shortly afterwards on the eastern side of the gorge near St Gabriel’s steps. The casualty was found to be in good spirits but had sustained injuries to her wrist which the Coastguard officers stabilised with fracture straps.”

The woman was taken by ambulance to Dorset County Hospital for treatment.

Coastguards are urging people to make sure they are fully prepared for walking on the coast, always have a fully charged mobile phone, adequate clothing, sturdy footwear and water.
