THERE were tears of joy at Woodroffe School as students opened their A-Level results.

At the Lyme Regis school, 51 percent of entries were graded A*, A or B, with 23 percent at A* or A.

Ele Saltmarsh is off to Oxford University to study Biological Sciences after achieving three A*s and an A.

Ele said: “It a really really big relief, but now there is the pressure of getting into Oxford.

“The work doesn’t stop here but I’m really glad with my results.

“I was so nervous getting my results that I was shaking.”

Frances Penrose also achieved impressive results with three A*s – securing a place at Cambridge University to study Engineering.

She said: “I’m really quite happy. I was really nervous but I thought I had done well.

“I’m looking forward to university but still really nervous. Hopefully I’m going to chill out a bit before I go.”

Jamie Jeffery got two A* grades in Art and English Literature, along with As in History of Art and History. Harry Robson achieved three As in French, History and Politics – while Shannon Allen gained an A* in Psychology, an A in History and a B in English Literature.

Dr Richard Steward, headteacher of the Woodroffe School, said: “Students have done superbly this year, helping the school to achieve another set of excellent results.

“I am delighted to see so many individuals achieving A* and A grades. It is also pleasing to note the consistency in results across all subject areas.”

 Eddie Beardwood achieved an A* in English Literature, an A is History and a B in Maths, while Sam Farrow was awarded an A* in Maths, an A in Further Maths and a B in Physics.

Anne Morgan gained an A* in Art and Design, an A in Textiles and a B in English Language, while Mary Penman gained an A* in English Literature, an A in Politics and a B in History.

“I am pleased to say that the vast majority of students met their target grades and secured their first choices of university,” added Dr Steward.

At the Woddroffe School, 40 percent of students achieves As or Bs at AS-Level, with 64 percent achieving grade C or above.
