A MAN was taken to hospital after a car ended up on its roof in West Dorset.

Police, paramedics and firefighters were called to the A3066 between Bridport and Melplash just before 2pm yesterday after a car left the road and landed in a field adjacent to Lower Mount Farm.

An 18 year old man was treated for lower back injuries and taken to hospital but they are not thought to be life threatening.

The appeared to have gone through hedges in to the field adjacent to the road.

A Dorset Police spokesperson said: “We were called at 2.15pm to reports of one vehicle with one person trapped, adjacent to Lower Mount Farm.

“The vehicle appears to have left the road and gone into a field. A car is on its roof.

“The road is currently blocked while paramedics deal with the incident.”

A spokesperson from South-Western Ambulance Service said that the car appeared to have rolled over.

The car involved was a blue Honda Civic registered to a man from Beaminster.

Dorset Fire and Rescue Service assisted the ambulance service in helping to free a man from the car.

A spokesman said: “One vehicle was found to be on its roof beside the road, with a male occupant inside.

“Crews from Bridport Fire Station attended, assisting the Ambulance Service at the scene.

“Using Hydraulic rescue equipment, firefighters helped to extricate the casualty.”

The road was closed in both directions with cars being forced to find alternative routes with emergency service vehicles blocking the road.

The road has now re-opened.
