A MAN lost two teeth after a clash following a dispute over a narrow road in Lyme Regis.

Two cars came nose to nose in Colway Lane at around 5pm on Wednesday evening, before the two drivers were involved in an altercation.

Police are urging drivers to use ‘common sense’ and are continuing to investigate the incident.

PC Richard Winward, of Lyme Regis police, said: “Colway Lane is quite narrow and although there are passing places, some are made up of people’s drive-ways which can make it difficult.

“Two cars came nose to nose and there was a bit of a dispute about who should reverse. An altercation took place between two men which led to a bit of a punch-up and one man lost a couple of teeth.

“He didn’t need emergency attention, but he has visited the dentist.”

A Dorset Police spokesperson said: “We were called at 5.06pm on Wednesday, July 15 to reports of an assault following a road rage incident in Colway Lane in Lyme Regis.

“A 53-year-old man sustained facial injuries. He did not require hospital treatment and no ambulance was called.”

Officers are appealing for any witnesses who may have been queued behind the cars to come forward.

PC Winward said: “It’s very rare and very unusual, especially in Lyme Regis.

“It is true to say that Lyme Regis can be a difficult place for cars sometimes. There has to be a bit of diplomacy and common sense.

“We have already spoken to a witness but there may have been a van driver who was queued behind one of the cars who may be able to shed light on the incident.”

Witnesses and anyone with information should call Dorset Police on 101.
