A BRIDPORT company has lent a helping hand to a disabled man whose woodburner was stolen.

As reported in the Bridport News, 53-year-old Grant Mulry, from South Annings in Burton Bradstock, saved for months to buy himself a new woodburner – only for his prized possession to be snatched from under a tarpaulin outside his front door on April 24.

Mr Mulry said he bought the woodburner as a replacement for a previous one which was broken.

He said he put a high priority on buying one despite his limited budget because being confined to a wheelchair he finds it difficult to keep warm with his limited movement.

Mr Mulry launched an appeal alongside a police investigation in hope of finding the stolen woodburner – but he is now happy and warm thanks to the efforts of South West Eco Systems.

Charlie Sloconde from South West Eco Systems said: “We heard about Mr Mulry’s appeal to find the boiler and then I spoke to Guy Crabb, because that’s the group we are part of.

“We decided we could do something to help and contacted Arada Stoves in Axminster, who make Aarow woodburners, and they agreed to supply Mr Mulry with a stove of his choice.

Mr Sloconde said they fitted the woodburner and flue liner so that everything is complete and installed properly.

He continued: “Guy Crabb has done this sort of thing before, with a boiler for a woman in Bridport, so we’re happy to help.”

Mr Mulry said he was delighted with the new addition to his home and was extremely grateful to those who helped.

He said: “It’s great; it’s just restored my faith in the human race really.

“One minute I’m down in the blues because I have scrimped and saved, and the next someone has offered to give me a new woodburner – it’s really good.”

He added: “This will help us out no end as I’m in a wheelchair and also have COPD, so I need the house to be warm in the winter.

“I cannot thank Charlie and Guy enough for helping to make life so much easier and for taking the financial pressure off of my limited resources.”
