A MUSIC festival in Bridport is returning for the second year this summer offering more fun than ever before and a helping hand to musical talent.

The Jurassic Fields Music Festival was set up in Bridport last year and took place on July 12, boasting 19 music acts, nine comedians and 1990s Britpop band Dodgy as headliners.

Last year, the festival attracted a crowd of more than 1,000 people at Asker Meadows.

Festival organisers Scott Morris and Daniel Broom say the event is a real family affair with plenty of entertainment, workshops aimed at a younger audience and a kids' fun fair to keep children occupied throughout the day.

And hot off the back of last year’s success, ska band Orange Street will be headlining this year’s event on Saturday, July 11, with West Dorset alt-pop duo The Gravity Drive taking to the second stage.

On the third stage, comedy will be headlined by Adam Kay with many more comedians still to be revealed.

Organiser Daniel Broom said feedback for last year’s event was amazing, with footfall around 1200 and the capacity to grow to 5000.

He added: “The first year of Jurassic Fields was very successful and we are delighted to announce the line-up for this year’s festival on July 11.

“The festival is run by a not for profit organisation and as it grows, we wish to invest any return in promoting local bands.

“We also want to provide the capital to set up a local music studio run by volunteers, available for any artist wishing to further their careers.

“We would like the festival to act as a model for other communities in supporting their local musical talent.”

Rising star and singer-songwriter Lauren Bannon from Weymouth will be performing at this year’s festival, having played more than 100 gigs in the last 12 months.

Festival favourites Shelby’s Elbows and The Leggomen will also be returning this year.

Other bands or musical acts gracing the stage include Hobo Jones and The Junkyard Dogs, Gaz Brookfield, The Mother Ukers, Funke and the Two Tone Baby, The Barefoot Bandit, The Calloborators, The Pickwicks and more.

In addition, this year the festival’s Third Stage will offer a number of youth acts and young musicians.
