A weather warning has been issued over strong winds expected to hit Dorset and the South West tonight.

The Met Office yellow warning is for westerly winds, with gusts of up to 60mph expected and isolated gusts of up to 70mph in exposed areas.

The warning, issued by the Met Office's chief forecaster, said there is a risk of localised damage and minor disruption to travel.

The strong winds could continue in to Tuesday with the wind turning north-westerly by the morning and although it should ease for a time, it will become very gusty through the day.

The yellow warning is the least severe registered by the Met Office and is a warning to people to ‘be aware’ of the weather conditions.

Warnings have been issued for most of the country due to 'a deepening area of low pressure'.
