ANOTHER rock fall at Hive Beach in Burton Bradstock over the weekend has sparked fresh safety warnings.

The rock fall, which is believed to be only small, took place on Sunday and is thought to have been caused by the wet weather in West Dorset over the weekend.

The fall happened close to the Hive Beach Café, a popular spot for walkers and people exercising their dogs.

The incident was noticed by staff at the café, who tweeted an alert and asked members of the public to be careful as the cliffs could still be unstable.

They also urged people to keep away from underneath the cliffs and to stay safe.

Residents and visitors are being encouraged to follow safety advice along the coastline as landslides and rock falls can occur quickly and without warning.

Coastguards say large sections of England's fragile south coast is crumbling into the sea, with landslides caused when heavy rainfall mixes with soft stone.

It was after the wet weather in the summer of 2012 that 22-year-old holidaymaker Charlotte Blackman was killed by a 400-tonne rockfall near Burton Bradstock.

At the inquest her father Kevin said the fall happened ‘in the blink of an eye’.
