Firefighters were called to a chimney fire in Foxglove Way at around 4.30pm on Sunday.
One crew from Bridport attended the scene.
A gas fire was alight but the fire was contained in the hearth and was extinguished using a carbon dioxide extinguisher and a hose reel jet.
The cause of the fire was a bird's nest in the chimney.
Dorset Fire and Rescue Service urge householders to ensure their chimney is safe and to have their chimney swept regularly by a registered chimney sweep.
