A BRIDPORT man in his 20s has been arrested after a police chase ended in a field in Eype.

Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone who saw a Grey Peugeot 206 being driven in the West Allington area of Bridport at just after 2pm this afternoon.

The driver of the car failed to stop for police, sparking a chase involving traffic police, patrol officers, the dog unit and the police helicopter.

The car was driven to Miles Cross and then went into fields where it was abandoned in the Eype area.

A man was apprehend and arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to stop for police and criminal damage.

He is assisting police with their enquiries.

Anyone who can help should ring Police on 101 quoting incident number 12196.

A woman who lives near the scene said she saw the police helicopter, three police vans, a police car. She said the helicopter was hovering for around an hour.

She said: "It was quite frightening. It was right over our house. I asked the police if they were filming an episode of Broadchurch but they were not amused.

"They would not say what it was about."
