TWO men have been injured following a suspected stabbing in Bridport.

Dorset Police said they were called at around 4.20pm on Saturday to reports of an altercation between three men near Church Close in Bridport.

A spokesman for Dorset Police said: “Three men, including a 51-year-old and 46-year-old, both from Beaminster, and a 54-year-old from Bridport, have been arrested in relation to the incident and are currently assisting police with their enquiries.

“Two of these men sustained injuries, one of which was consistent with being stabbed. One man remains in hospital receiving treatment.”

Mayor of Bridport, Maggie Ray, said of the incident: “This is an extremely rare occurance in Bridport. We pride ourselves on being one of the safest places to live in.

“I’m confident the police will be dealing with this incident and we look forward to finding out what went on.”

A spokesman for South Western Ambulance Service confirmed they were called to an incident on Church Close on Saturday afternoon, and a vehicle was dispatched to the scene.

Insp. Mike Darby, of Bridport Police, said: “Enquiries are ongoing in relation to exactly what happened during that incident.

“We are appealing for witnesses, for anyone who may have seen an altercation take place at that time.”
