LYME REGIS: An acclaimed UK folk band are stopping off at the Marine Theatre to support their new album.

The seven-piece South Tenant Folk Union will play in Lyme Regis on Friday, January 30 – following the release of their sixth album – The Chuck Norris Project.

The collective’s new release is their most ambitious album so far since forming in Edinburgh in 2006.

South Tenant Folk Union’s new release is the follow-up to Hello Cold Goodbye Sun – which enjoyed good reviews from critics. Each track on the new release is named after a different film Chuck Norris has starred in – although the tracks have nothing to do with the plots and contain no reference to car chases or explosions.

Each song takes the title as a starting point to discuss political ideas. Band leader Pat McGarvey came upon the idea during the 2012 US presidential election when Mr Norris and his wife released a campaign video supporting Mitt Romney – stating that a vote for President Obama would lead to ‘a thousand years of darkness’.

Musically eclectic, the album remains an all-acoustic affair – but feeds from other influences, including 70s disco, folk and soundtrack music mixing elements of composers like John Carpenter, Gene Clark and Fabio Frizzi. The Chuck Norris Project, which is released on Monday, January 19, also features guest vocals from cult Americana songwriter Mike Ferrio – known for his work with Tandy and Good Luck Mountain.

The doors open at 7.15pm for an 8pm start.
