A packed Marine Theatre was treated to an evening’s celebration by youth music group B Sharp.

The collective rounded off another music-filled year with a special performance in front of a full house in Lyme Regis on November 22.

Performers were given the chance to show off some of the music they have written during the regular Tuesday night project at the Hub. It was also an opportunity for members to party and socialise, without the pressure of a professional concert.

This year’s guest band, Mr Jean, were all previous members of B Sharp – with the four piece still involved in the project.

Event organiser Pete Wild said: “We are so lucky that some of our original B Sharp members are now professional musicians with a great new band. As well as playing on the night, they have all been involved with teaching or mentoring at the music sessions at The Hub.

“We like to try and remember all the great things we do over a year and putting a small acoustic stage in the bar was a tribute to our Busking Festival.”

The show was opened by Harry Eastwood, playing three pieces to highlight his technical ability on the piano.

This was followed by four B Sharp groups from the Hub jam sessions – playing their own new music they had composed and rehearsed this autumn.

“Every bit of those songs are written by our participants with the help of our music leaders and young music leaders,” added Mr Wild. The longer we work like this, the more depth and quality is in the music.”

“All over, our party is a chance to share amazing new music, remember the good times we have had, thank some folk for their continuing support and then to get down on the dance floor. The wonderful Mr Jean was the perfect band to end the evening and a huge thanks goes to them for bringing the party to a head with their cool tight grooves, great humour and frankly incredible fashion sense.”

The jam sessions attract around 45 young people every week – with a team of musical leaders offering support in composition and performance.

Mr Wild and Jacques Verhaeren have been joined this year by Jon Pogson, Olivia Benger, Kelly Osbourne and Dean Skinner as musical leaders.
