CHRISTMAS cheer was in the air as people in Lyme Regis got into the festive spirit to celebrate the Christmas lights switch on.

The Christmas lights extravaganza was held on Saturday, November 29, with a range of activities, Christmas carols and the unveiling of a plaque in memory of former Lyme Regis Mayor and community champion Barbara Austin.

The event was organised by the Christmas Lights Committee and included a range of family focused events.

Children were invited to meet Santa from 3pm at the Royal Lion Hotel on Broad Street, where entrance was £1 and every child received a special Santa gift.

There was also a street theatre from 3pm in the town centre which included a performance from the Lyme Regis Majorettes.

A free lantern-making workshop was also on offer at the Baptist Church at 3pm, which was followed by the lantern competition at 4.30pm.

The parade took place at 5.15pm with the lights switch on at 5.30pm. Father Christmas then made his way down to the Cobb to switch on the Christmas lights, which saw crowds flock to the town to enjoy the festive atmosphere.
