LYME REGIS: Town councillors have blasted a request to run a ‘Win a Mini’ stall in the Guildhall car park.

The objection comes despite the town council granted permission for family-run Colyton Butchers to run a weekly mobile stall in the same car park last June.

Permission was granted for the mobile butchers shop for a trial period of seven months twice a week on a Wednesday and a Friday. The cost was £5 a visit.

At a town management committee meeting, councillors were asked to consider a similar request from a local businesswoman to operate a stall.

A report by operations manager Elliott Herbert told councillors: “The businesswoman has run the stall at Axminster Market over the summer but would like the opportunity to run it in her home town.

“The stallholder would offer the chance to win a Mini or a £10,000 cash prize.”

Cllr Lucy Campbell said: “I’m not in favour of this at all. I wanted to support Colyton Butchers because it was something the town needed.

“This doesn’t in my mind fulfil any requirement Lyme residents need.”

Other members agreed with Cllr Campbell and voted unanimously to not allow the operation of the stall. Recommendations from the committee will be considered by full council on November 19.
