BURTON BRADSTOCK: A Veast of Folk revived an old tradition of music, song and dance in the village and raised more than £600 for the RNLI.

The folk day was held at the Three Horseshoes Pub and was a great success, with bands playing to a packed audience in the pub garden followed by a ceilidh and supper in the village hall.

The next day, an impromptu music session in the Anchor Pub brought in an extra donation to swell the funds.

The line-up of local musicians, who all performed for free, included Bobbies Gurlz, The Bride Valley Band, Shiraz, ABA, Le Rooster, KnH, Delta 88 and Mor or Less.

Wyld Morris also danced outside the pub during the afternoon and students from Burton Bradstock School sang at the event.

One of the organisers, Gill Perkins, said: “The day was a great success and raised a substantial sum for the RNLI.

“At the peak of the event we had about 100 people attend which was brilliant; and we had pretty much a whole day of live music.

“We had lots of bands perform, some of which were from Bridport, and the day was a real community effort. Thanks must go to local musicians who all gave their time for free and made the Veast such an enjoyable event.

“In the village between the 1960s and 1980s there was a club called the Green Fingers Club that held a regular ‘veast’ event where people came together and had a good time.

“We hoped to revive that tradition with our Veast of Folk event, and we’re now thinking about a similar event next year.”

Entry to the event was free and activities also included a raffle, charity stall and donation buckets, with all proceeds going to the RNLI.

Organisers recently made the presentation to Bridport RNLI at Haddon House and were thanked for their donation.
