BRIDPORT: More than 100 staff and pupils at Symondsbury Primary School arrived for class on Friday bedecked as Oompa-Loompas, witches, or giant peaches in a dress up day for charity.

The school’s Dahlicious Dress Up Day allowed 102 students from classes 2-4 to donate £1 to enable them to dress up as their favourite character from the novels by Roald Dahl, the proceeds of which would go to Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity.

The charity helps seriously ill children and fundraising initiatives like Dahlicious Dress Up Day helps them to fund specialist nurses, provide grants to families in financial hardship and fund research.

Headteacher, Mrs Emma Roberts, said, “The school has been overrun with Oompa-Loompas, Willy Wonkas and Matildas and it's fantastic to see the effort everyone has made for this special day.

“It’s important for the children to consider the needs of those less fortunate than themselves and to support this wonderful charity.”

This is the first time that Symondsbury School has taken part in Dahlicious Day. Children on the day focused on Roald Dahl based activities including reading stories and poems.
