Writer James Runcie has been confirmed to appear at the tenth Bridport Literary Festival due to take place in November.
Son of the former Archbishop of Canterbury, the late Robert Runcie, he will be talking about his series of six detective stories featuring a clerical sleuth.
The first episode in the series aired on ITV this week, and will continue through a series of six thrillers based on his novels, known as the Grantchester Mysteries, set in the city of Cambridge during the 1960s.
James Norton plays the part of the clergyman-sleuth and Robson Green, his Geordie sidekick.
Speaking about the Bridport Literary Festival, Mr Runcie said he only needed ‘an excuse’ to come to Bridport, which he described as a ‘fantastic and beautiful town’.
“It’s a shame that I can’t stay longer, both for the town and festival – I love it there. I feel invigorated by the place.
“The thing is that Bridport knows its landscape and has a sense of confidence without being arrogant. It has a natural grace.”
He will deliver a talk at the festival on November 13 at the Electric Palace under the title of Secrets, Sermons, and Satan. The Bridport Literary Festival runs from November 9-16.
