BRIDPORT: The Allsop Gallery in the town’s arts centre is looking for volunteers to take up stewarding roles.

Hosting a wide range and variety of exhibitions, such as knitted gardens, sculptures, and everyone inbetween, the gallery garners huge interest from those with a taste for visual arts, according to officials.

Megan Dunford, Bridport Arts Centre’s exhibitions assistant, said: “It is such a enjoyable role. When you go to the gallery you never know what will happen, you don’t know who will walk through the door. If you’re interested in art you will always have someone to chat to about the subject.”

The Allsop Gallery is the only publically-funded gallery in Dorset and its volunteers play an essential role in keeping it open and running. This makes it possible for thousands of visitors to experience a multitude of displays art for free.

The volunteer slots are two hours per session and the role involves tracking visitor numbers, greeting visitors with a warm welcome and keeping an eye on the artwork.
