One man was arrested for theft and another for burglary in separate incidents in Lyme Regis on Monday.

The Lyme Regis Safer Neighbourhood Team said that at approximately 13:10hrs on a call was made over the Lyme Regis Shoplink Radio to Police following the theft of a handbag and swimsuit from Boylo’s Watersports shop on Marine Parade. A description of the offender was passed to other shops on the Radiolink by an alert member of staff in Boylo’s and local business staff assisted the local PCSO searching for the offender. Following a positive identification of the offender on the beach Police officers were guided in to make the arrest.

The 33 year old Irish male admitted the offence and was dealt with at Weymouth custody by means of fixed penalty notice for theft. The stolen items were recovered and returned to the store. Three companions of the offender including a vehicle were also stopped and searched by officers.

Whilst dealing with this incident news of a burglary to a private dwelling in the Mill Lane area of Lyme Regis came in. Investigation by local and scenes of crime officers resulted in the arrest of a 47 year old local male for burglary. He has since been charged and bailed to appear before Weymouth Magistrates on 3rd October.
