BRIDPORT and LYME REGIS: Local organisations and charities were given a funding boost on Tuesday following the announcement of the August 2014 Big Lottery Fund South West Awards for All, with 214 grants being given across the county amounting to nearly £1.8mn.

Among the beneficiaries in Bridport was the charity Tax Help for Older People who were granted £9,050, and will use the funding to develop four introductory tax training videos for partner organisations enabling them to provide advice on elderly tax matters.

Transition Town Bridport, a local community project, will use the £6,091 in funding to provide practical food cooking and social activities for parents of the pupils from the adjacent children's centre. This will improve their health awareness and support them to cook healthy meals for their families.

In Lyme Regis, the Lyme Regis Development Trust will use £8,635 to replace the windows in their community building to allow them to extend the service they provide to the local community.

Lyn Cole, Big Lottery Fund England Director, said: “National Lottery money is making a positive impact in local communities, helping to change lives for the better and support a wealth of projects in the South West region. The projects demonstrate the life-changing difference a small amount of Lottery funding can have and will continue to do so, long into the future. I wish them all the best of luck”.
