The popular event yesterday, Thursday, July 24, is one of the town’s most important fundraisers in aid of the RNLI.
This year, 16 teams took to the River Brit to battle it out for first place in the race.
But for the efforts which were less seaworthy, such as the Round Table’s Lego raft, which capsized as soon as it launched, there are other prizes on offer, such as best dressed and most entertaining.
Crowds cheered on as the sailors rowed their creations upstream and back down towards the harbour.
A number of rafts capsized, but one team refused to be beaten, climbing aboard their upturned hull and continuing to row.
One raft – shaped like a swan – by Oscar’s Wine Bar was disqualified.
Organiser Alan Jackson said: “It really was just a boat disguised with a sheet.
“But it’s all a bit of fun. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, the weather was perfect and we raised money for an important charity, which is what counts.”
He added: “The standard of rafts this year was really excellent.”
