FIGURES are not in yet but this year’s Buckham Fair looks set to break all records.

The new one-way traffic system was pronounced a sucess and will be employed in future years as thousands enjoyed the sunshine at Buckham Fair Actor Martin Clunes and his wife Philippa opened the gates to their land for the yearly event, which was in aid of the Weldmar Hospicecare Trust this year.

Philippa said: “It will be a few weeks yet before we know how much we raised but it was fantastic and undoubtedly record-breaking.

“We sorted the traffic situation out and everything went really, really well.

“The atmosphere was great and it’s nice to know so many people enjoyed a good family day out.”

And on Sunday evening Twitter was awash with great photos of apparently exhausted but happy dogs lazing about on sofas after their strenuous day out.

Mr Clunes was busy on the day signing autographs and having pictures taken with fans in exchange for a £1 donation to Weldmar.

Mr Clunes said: “Everyone's loving it. I'm looking round at crowds of smiling faces.”

He added: “I couldn't be happier.”

The traditional fair saw horse, dog and pony competitions, a beer tent and food stalls, a fun fair, vintage cars and classic scooters, trade stalls and ice creams..

Director of fundraising at Weldmar Caroline Nickinson said the fair had been 'absolutely packed' and everyone had a great time.

She said: “It's truly amazing. We are so grateful to Martin and Philippa and the Buckham Committee for nominating us.

“I'd like to say a big thank you to everybody- all the volunteers who helped out, to the Buckham Committee for nominating us and everybody that turned up and spent money.”
