Industry award for Lyme Regis Dramatic Society

LYME Regis Dramatic Society has received a prestigious industry award for its 2012 production.

The society has been presented with a NODA (National Operatic and Dramatic Association) South West District 6 Achievement Award for ‘Tons of Money, which was performed at the Marine Theatre in April last year.

The award was presented to society members by NODA’s national president Derek Grattidge.

The society is now turning its attention to the next play, Local Affairs, which runs at the Marine Theatre from March 20 to 23 at 7.30pm.

Directed by Cherine Hill, this comedy is written by Richard Harris, and is set in the ‘new estate’ days of the 1980s.

It follows three totally different couples who have just moved into their identical houses and the events over one day when they are all trying to settle in and become adjusted to their new neighbours.

A doctor and his wife are very middle class and preparing to go out to a fancy dress party (Chris Knight and Hazel Cawte).

Their neighbours are ‘my son David’ and his long suffering wife with the ‘mother-in-law from hell’ who interferes with their arrangements (Fred Humphrey, Linda Crawford and Anne King).

The final couple is motorbike fanatic Keith and his rather neglected wife who had been hoping to make the most of the opportunity to rekindle the romance (Andy Penman and new member Nicky Hinton).

Into this mismatch of neighbours appear the easy-going and smooth anaesthetist Peter (new member Stephen Knight) and ex-girlfriend of Keith (Pam Ladd).

The action is played out in the most involved set the dramatic society has ever used – three sets representing rooms in all three houses.
