Alun was born in 1957 and brought up in South Yorkshire.
In 1984 he moved to Bradford to take up a partnership in the GP practice where he has worked ever since. Alun is divorced with two children.
Active in the Liberals and then Liberal Democrats since his student days, Alun was first elected as a councillor in 2000. He lost his seat in 2004 but was re-elected in 2006, giving up his seat in 2008.
Alun is a member and steward of his local Methodist Church and active in Bradford and Airedale Local Medical Committee.
