Wessex Water's sewage app a global hit

A SEWAGE-themed game for phones devised by the water company that covers Dorset has proved to be a worldwide hit.
More than 20,000 people have downloaded the Bag It and Bin it app in the last six months, says Wessex Water.
It was launched in a bid to prevent blocked sewers after the company discovered numerous items such as nappies, false teeth and even underwear were causing blockages.
While also being a fun game, it carries serious messages such as how flushing items other than human waste and toilet paper can block sewers, leading to flooding of properties and highways.
Clive Tugwell from Wessex Water said he was surprised with the popularity of Bag It and Bin it after hearing it was proving popular in countries such as Denmark, America and Australia.
He said: “We didn’t ever imagine that it would receive so many downloads so early since its launch. While it is a fun game, there is a serious message behind it as it educates people.
“It’s also great to know that not only are customers enjoying the game but that people from all over the world find it entertaining too.”
It is one of two apps which have been launched by the firm in the past year.
The Wessex Water mobile app allows people to report leaks wherever they are and to access information about billing, services and company news.
