Homes and businesses hit by electricity cut
3:23pm Thursday 9th August 2012 in Bridport By James Tourgout
MORE than 3,000 properties were hit by a massive power cut in Bridport and surrounding areas.
Supply company Western Power Distribution said that 3,013 customers were affected by the black out at 1.50pm.
It was caused by a connection failing in an industrial estate off Shoe Lane.
The East Street and St Andrew's Road area was affected but the cut also stretched to parts of Bradpole, North Allington and Shipton Gorge.
A spokesman said that it was caused by the failure in a pole connecting overhead cables and underground cables.
Many properties were back on by 2pm but it took an hour for all but 14 to be restored with power.
A spokesman said that they apologied for the inconvenience and that engineers were doing their best to fix the fault.
She added that 14 properties without power would be supplied with generators until the problem was resolved.
