Cheese, wine and the future of Broadwindsor

THE findings of the Broadwindsor Group Parish Plan will be unveiled tomorrow at a special meeting in Comrades Hall at 7.30pm.

Questionnaires were circulated earlier in the year to every household in the group parish – which includes Broadwindsor, Seaborough, Drimpton, Blackdown, Hursey and Burstock – to find out what residents thought was important and to highlight things which could be improved.

Fraser Hughes, who chairs the parish plan steering committee, said: “We want people to come along to hear the findings on the issues they are concerned about and how it is intended to tackle them.”

There will also be a meeting at Drimpton Village Hall on Tuesday, June 19, at 7.30pm.

Both meetings will take the form of a cheese and wine evening. Entry is free.

At the Broadwindsor meeting, there will be an update about the village shop, which closed 10 months ago. One of the key findings of the parish plan consultation was that locals wanted a shop back in the village.

Following discussions with the former shopkeeper and his brother, who is the new owner, the Save our Broadwindsor Shop (SOBS) Committee hopes to re-open it as Broadwindsor Community Stores.

Mr Hughes said: “Details will be given on the anticipated operation, its legal status and financial position and how people can play their part in ensuring its success. The committee will be seeking support to get this venture off the ground.”
