Calling all young musicians – an exciting opportunity has arisen for you to take to the stage as part of a brand new event.

Music charity B Sharp is launching Bridport Sounds, a live gig that will showcase the best live talent in the area.

B Sharp, which aims to 'build a sound future for young people through music' offers a broad, inclusive programme of music, singing, participation, creation, performance and development to people from their early years to adulthood.

Its latest venture is seeking youngsters who have the 'Bridport sound' and invites inspiring up-and-coming or semi-professional original musicians, bands and singer-songwriters to enter a competition to win the chance to perform at the event in July.

If you win first prize in the contest, you will perform a 45-minute slot as the show’s headliner and receive £200, while second prize will offer the opportunity to perform a slot as a support act.

Musician Ellie Walker, music leader for B Sharp,is co-ordinating Bridport Sounds along with Hannah Cumming.

Ellie said: “We’re excited to be launching this new venture. Bridport Sounds will not just give local talent a chance to play in a great gig in July, but will enable bands, singer-songwriters and musicians to take part in a brand new event sharing music making in new and exciting way in the region, and inspiring the next generation of musicians.”

To be in with a chance of winning, artists must be based within a 10-mile radius of Bridport. Artists and bands need to have between 10 and 45 minutes of original material (some cover is permitted) that can be performed at the event and any genre and any level of experience will be accepted.

Performers must be available to play at 4pm on the day and be aged between 11 and 25.

You must also have your own equipment, though B Sharp will supply PA and stage equipment.
