COMMUNITY volunteers have put out an urgent appeal for volunteers to help out this weekend.

Catherine Harvey, of the Allington Hill, Cooper’s Wood and Field community group said two working parties will be taking place on Saturday and Sunday, both starting at 10am.

She said: “After the snow it doesn’t seem possible that the nesting season is just around the corner. The volunteers for Allington Hill, Cooper’s Wood and Field Community Group this winter have struggled through, rain, hail and bitterly cold weather to try and get all the jobs done. Two projects have been completed, but they need help to finish the most important one.

“We are three years in to a five year management plan for Cooper’s Wood to help improve the woodland for nature as well as providing an area for the community.

“Hundreds of people have enjoyed experiencing nature close to hand at many of events held in Cooper’s Circle. A place for friends and families to gather and for use for local schools as well as our activity events. This foot fall means the area needs some tender loving care to get it ready for this coming season.

“This weekend the camp fire will be lit and refreshments provided. No experience needed and it is something the whole family can join in. We will be meeting at the main gate, Hospital Lane at 10am.”

The group aims to involve the community in looking after these areas for the benefit of the local wildlife and to provide a community space for all to enjoy.
