A MINI book festival will be held to raise vital funds for a children’s hospice.

Bridport Book Festival is organising the event, which will be held at the Bridport Arts Centre on Saturday, December 2.

Money raised will go to the Children’s Hospice South West and book lovers and aspiring writers are invited to go along and browse all types of new books, from crime fiction and thrillers to historical novels and romance, all by local authors. There will also be exclusive offers and signed copies available.

Local author Christopher Legg, from Bridport Book Fest, has just completed his first novel ‘In Fields of Gold and Red’. He said: “We hope that everyone in Bridport will join us to help raise as many funds as possible for CHSW. The Bookshop are sponsoring us by giving a percentage of their takings to CHSW on the day.

“My goal is to raise £1,000 as I’m participating in the Ride for Precious Lives in July 2018 to raise money for the CHSW. The ride visits each of the three hospices in St Austell, Barnstaple and Charlton Down (near Bristol) and cover’s over 205 miles in three days. I thought what better way than to combine my love of books and organise this event?

“We wanted to raise funds for CHSW because of its work with life-limited children and their families, and we hope the event will be a great success. It’s a charity close to my heart as my best friend’s son was born with a severe condition.”

Local authors will be on hand so anyone who is thinking of taking up the pen and starting their own novel can ask advice.

Entry is free and all are welcome to go along, browse the titles on offer and support the cause.

Authors with a book to sell can take a stand, which costs £10.

Spaces are limited so anyone interested is urged to get in touch as soon as possible.

It costs more than £8million to run Children’s Hospice South West’s three hospices in Devon, Cornwall and Somerset. For ways to support the charity visit www.chsw.org.uk/fundraising
