WHO wants a large photograph of West Bay signed by Broadchurch stars David Tennant and Olivia Coleman?

The trustees of Bridport's Youth and Community Centre hopes a lot of people will.

The autographed photo is just one of the prizes in a mega raffle being organised as part of the centre's fundraising programme.

Since the new trust took over after Dorset County Council relinquished its management role of the centre the trustees have had to find a variety of ways to raise funds to pay for the range of activities on offer.

Their latest enterprise is a huge raffle - with 2000 tickets on sale on every Saturday on Bucky Doo and individually from the trustees, who are grateful to local businesses who have shown their support for the youth centre by offering a host of generous prizes.

The first prize is the iconic 'Broadchurch cliffs', and other prizes include a family ticket to a show at the Bridport Arts Centre, a cream tea at The Bull Hotel, a meal at the Olive Tree and a rug from Carpet World.

The raffle will be drawn on Wednesday May 31.

A wide variety of activities are on offer at the centre, the large gym hosts dancing, boxing, B Sharp has its musical sessions there, and Bridport Musical Theatre takes advantage of the large space to rehearse its popular song and dance shows, and there is also Taikwondo, badminton, Jelly Bean toddler club mother and toddler activities, Fizzy Boppers high energy dancing for youngsters and indoor football.

Upstairs the centre hosts young people at their youth clubs on Wednesday and Friday, and these classes are attended by increasing numbers of young people in Bridport.

On Wednesdays the 9 plus club offers a wide range of activities from cooking to storytelling, and there is a great deal on offer for the older ones on Friday including playing football, trying out games on the large video screens and if necessary, sharing their worries with the trained leaders.

Chairman of the Bridport Youth and Community Trust Ros Kayes said: “A youth centre can support a young person through a troubled time, give them somewhere safe to spend their evenings with friends and offer them fun activities that take them away from spending time alone with their computer and help them develop interpersonal skills in an exciting environment.

“That’s why we need to keep our building and our youth clubs running – Bridport needs this community resource now more than ever.”
