A 50-YEAR-OLD man was killed in a motorcycle crash in Bridport.

The victim’s blue Honda bike was in collision with a Skoda Octavia in Sea Road North, Bridport, at 3.55pm on Saturday.

The motorcyclist, from Martock in Somerset, died at the scene, just north of the East Road roundabout.

His next of kin and the coroner have been notified, although he has not yet been named.

The 71-year-old man driving the car, and his 63-year-old passenger, both from South Petherton in Somerset, were uninjured.

Emergency services rushed to the scene immediately closing the Sea Road North, on the A3066.

The road was closed between the Esso roundabout and St Andrews Road for almost five hours on Saturday afternoon whilst investigators examined the scene.

Slow moving traffic was reported in the area before the road was re-opened at 8.45pm.

Leader of Bridport Town Council Cllr Sarah Williams said it was a “sad day” for the town.

She said: “It is a really sad incident for Bridport and I think it was dealt with very well by all the emergency services.”

Police officers are now appealing for witnesses to help with their investigation.

Police Sergeant Joe Pardey, of the traffic unit, said: “I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the manner of driving of either vehicle immediately prior to the incident to please contact Dorset Police.

“We close roads following serious injury and fatal collisions to enable us to carry out our examinations fully and professionally. I would like to thank the public for their patience while these were in place.”
