LAST night members of Bridport Carnival committee met to decide if the 2017 event was going ahead.

They've decided it will.

Committee chairman Shaun Fox said members had been debating its future following concerns with public and participant safety after road closure breaches at last year's carnival.

He said: "The committee has agreed that Bridport Carnival will go ahead this year, however there will be ongoing discussions with the Dorset Police and the Safety Advisory Group (SAG).

"The Carnival committee will now continue to plan a full week of events to include the main Carnival Procession and the Torchlight parade."
