A COUNCILLOR has stepped down from Bridport Town Council.

Cllr Frances McKenzie resigned from the authority on Wednesday, March 8. Mayor of Bridport, Cllr Ros Kayes, received the resignation and has thanked Cllr McKenzie for her service on the town council and wished her well for the future.

Cllr McKenzie, who is also a Conservative councillor on West Dorset District Council, will continue to serve on the district council.

In her resignation letter, Cllr McKenzie said: “I have been finding it increasingly difficult to attend evening meetings of the town council. Therefore I feel that someone who can attend evening meetings of the council should be given the opportunity to do so.

“I will continue as a committed and dedicated district councillor for the Bridport South ward, as the district council has predominately daytime meetings that I am able to attend.”

A notice of vacancy has been posted by the town council. If 10 names with a request for an election come forward from the town council south ward within 14 days, a by-election will be held.
