THE Melplash Show and its sheep exhibitors are going to be TV stars.

The show was one chosen to take part in a new BBC series 'The Farmers Country Showdown' which starts on Monday (feb 13).

Melplash Show secretary Lucy Hart said: "Over the summer in 2016 we took part in a new BBC series ‘The Farmers Country Showdown’.

"The 15 episode BBC1 series features inspirational farming families showcasing their dedication and passion for their farms, animals and produce. The series will be shown every week day from Monday February 13, 15.45 on BBC1. Our show along with some of our exhibitors will be featured on Thursday February 23."

Mrs Hart said it had been really fun to have the BBC team at the show.

She said: "They were with us for I think about three months in total."

After contacting the show the production team tracked down a couple of sheep exhibitors and spent time with them.

Mrs Hart added: "They spent some time with them, watching them getting ready, behind the scenes and then came to the show with them to see how they got on on show day and see if they win.

"They were with us filming on show day and went off to various places.

"They were concentrating on a couple of our sheep exhibitors - it wasn't the Fooks but I don't think I am allowed to say who it was.

"It is two local sheep exhibitors who I am sure people will know.

"They went back to their houses, saw what else they do. Some also make honey so they watch them doing that.

"It really shows how much support there is for agricultural shows and how much work goes into them.

"People are so proud to bring their animals and it is not just a case of coming to win prizes - they want to show off what they have been working hard to achieve.

"Most of the people who do exhibit have a farming background - that's their job they are farming every day - to bring their animals and hopefully win some prizes just shows that they are doing something right.

"We are really honoured that they make contact with us.

"We are delighted. It shows everyone what we are about - the agriculture, the food, everything else.

"It's nice that the show will get a wider audience and even the film crew who came down said 'my goodness this is a whole other world'."
