PUPILS at a Bridport school celebrated the harvest by donating food to a local charity.

Children at Bridport Primary School organised the event, with a range of harvest goodies donated to a food bank.

Children and families poured into the school hall to present their offerings to the community.

The hall steps were filled with autumn colours as tins and packets and fresh produce filled the colourful boxes. A harvest loaf, made by Matthew Tate, became the talking point of the school as the smell of baked bread filled the hall.

Debbie Brown, head teacher of Bridport Primary School, thanked pupils for their donations which she said will go to the "brilliant" Cupboard Love food bank.

She said: “We want to say thank you so much to everyone who contributed today, whether you grew it yourself, picked something from a family garden or allotment, made it, cleared your cupboard, or bought it especially for us today.

“Thank you also to Morrisons who kindly donated a whole box of goodies to add to the display.

“All of this wonderful produce will go to into the Bridport community via the brilliant Cupboard Love throughout the coming weeks. It is so heart-warming to see such kindness from our school community. We know many families will benefit from their generosity today.”

Rev Andrew Evans, who runs the Cupboard Love food bank, led the children in a harvest celebration and helped pupils and staff to remember how important this time of year is in the UK and around the world.

The children sang their two of their favourite harvest songs to bring the celebration to a close in the school hall.

If you would like to donate to the foodbank, you can drop off your donations to the Cupboard Love group at St Mary’s Church between 11.30am and 1pm every Wednesday or at the two collection points in Morrisons and Waitrose in the town.
