JOBS could be at risk after a plumbing company confirmed its Bridport store will close by the end of the year.

As part of Plumbase’s branch review, a number of the company’s stores will close by the end of the year, including the Bridport premises along Sea Road North.

The company has put the review down to a "challenging 12 months" and the decision for the UK to leave the European Union.

A spokeswoman from Plumbase, said: “Bridport unfortunately will be one of the branches that is closing.

“Unfortunately we expect some people to be made redundant.”

The plumbing and heating merchant has started a consultation process with employees who could be affected.

Andy Williams, Plumbase managing director, said: “It has been a challenging 12 months with difficult trading conditions further complicated by the recent Brexit vote.

“A relatively small proportion of our branches are affected and we remain committed to strengthening our business and the delivery of our long term strategy focused upon the sustainable growth in profitability”.

Plumbase is the fourth largest plumbing and heating merchant in the UK with 198 branches nationwide. It currently employs around 1,100 staff.
