A WARNING has been issued after two cars were broken in to at a popular walking spot.

On Sunday police were called to two separate reports that cars were broken in to in the area of Hardy’s Monument, near Portesham.

The monument is a popular location for walkers.

From one vehicle, a sat nav was stolen, that was left in view and from the other a handbag was stolen.

The handbag contained keys and a mobile phone.

Following the break-ins, police have reminded people how to be safe when visting locations such as this.

A spokesman said: “This is a reminder to all, when visiting popular walking spots, never leave anything valuable in your car. Never, ever leave anything on show because that will be far too easy for a thief and if possible, try to avoid getting out of your car and specifically putting items in your boot, if this can be done before you get to your walking spot, then this option is preferred.

“Remember, try to make it difficult for a thief, they won't pick your car if there is an easy option next door with something on show.”

Officers from the Dorchester Neighbourhood Policing Team aim to try and visit this local hot spot areas and carry out high visibility patrols to deter potential thieves
