COULD you be a Weldmar hero?

The Dorset hospice is running its first ever Superhero Fun Run – and it’s taking place in Bridport.

The family friendly, one mile event is suitable for children of all ages and participants are asked to dust off their favourite superhero cape to bring some colour and fun along.

Diane Bentley, Weldmar’s Community Fundraiser, said: “The Superhero Fun Run is a great way to show that you are one of Weldmar’s Heroes – and is the perfect for the whole family.

“Our Heroes are welcome to jog, run, walk – or even fly- at a speed that is comfortable for them.
So find your best cape and cowl, and join us at Bridport Football Club. All the money that is raised from this event will be used to support our patients and their families across Dorset.”

The Weldmar Hospicecare Trust provides specialist care for patients with cancer and other progressive conditions, such as motor neurone disease.

Help is on hand completely free of charge for patients and their families across north, south and west Dorset, both in the comfort of their own homes and at the Wellbeing Centres run by the charity or its inpatient unit, the Joseph Weld Hospice in Dorchester.

The NHS contributes 32 per cent of clinical costs, leaving Weldmar needing to raise £10,240 per day to fund the free of charge services through fundraising and its chain of twenty charity shops and four outlets.

Weldmar Hospicecare Trust cares for patients with cancer and other progressive conditions, such as motor neurone disease, who require specialist help.

The charity runs a number of events throughout the year across Dorset for people to get involved in fundraising.

Registration is now open for the Superhero Fun Run, which is being held at 11am on September 25 at Bridport Football Club.

Entry costs £10 for Big Heroes (participants aged 16 and over), £7 for Little Heroes (ages five to 15) and is free for Mini Heroes (children aged under five).

If you would like to take part you can register online via the Weldmar website at www.weld-hospice.org.uk/hero or you can call the fundraising office on 01305 261800.
