A MAN has suffered serious head injuries after a crash on the A35. 

Police were called at 2.20pm to Smiter's Pit Lane, near Axminster, following a collision between a car and a lorry.

The man, who had been driving the car, is to be taken to hospital to be treated for head injuries and a fractured leg.

The A35 is currently closed between Copper Castle and Taunton cross as ambulance and fire services attend the scene.

A spokesman for South Western Ambulance said: "The air ambulance was called to the scene at 2.20pm following a two vehicle collision.

"The air ambulance is currently at the scene although it is believed the man will now travel to hospital by road."

Police said the lorry driver is not hurt. 

Traffic is queuing in both directions between the A358 junction in Axminster and the A35 King's Road junction in Honiton.
