MONEY was raised for local causes as organisers of this year's West Bay Day labelled this year's event a success.

The annual event took place at various locations around West Bay on Sunday (7) - as crowds turned out to enjoy the day of family fun.

The new duck race was a sell out, with all 1,000 ducks sold before the race began on the River Brit.

The classic cars and bikes on the Esplanade drew many admirers, and the Chesil Model Flying Club put on a show of night flying to entertain the crowds.

Youngsters could enjoy the popular walk the plank game, as well as other pirates activities, while a range of stalls were opened on Fisherman's Green and Harbour Green - along with the Esplanade, offering local goodies.

The event also boasted ten hours of live music on The Mound, with K2 performing as the headline act. Also providing live music were Stress, Storm, Mama Feelgood, The Vinyl Money, Barracoodas (corr) and Nina Garcia who opened the entertainment at 1pm.

Sylvia Stafford, chairman of West Bay Days, said: "West Bay Days would like to thank all participants, volunteers, sponsors and

visitors for making the day such a great success.

"West Bay Day is our main annual fundraising event and this year it is supporting the Bridport Barracudas, Bridport Youth Football Club, Greenhills and the West Bay WI, as well as the Lyme Bay Fisherman’s appeal to fund a defibrillator to be located

near to the Harbourmaster’s office.

"A special thank you is due to Brit Valley campground for allowing the use of field parking for the day which will enable a donation to the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance."

Organisers are yet to determine the total amount of charity funding raised. For more information, please visit westbay.org.uk
