A BRIDPORT nursery is celebrating after it received its second consecutive “good” rating from Ofsted.

Sunny Days Nursery, on West Street, has been rated good following an inspection in May.

At its last inspection in 2013 it was also rated “good” but had been rated as “inadequate” prior to that.

The inspectors found the nursery to be good in all four areas assessed; effectiveness of the leadership and management, quality of teaching, learning and assessment, personal development, behaviour and welfare and outcomes for children.

The report stated: “Staff know what children enjoy.

“They provide a wide range of activities and learning experiences, which reflect children’s interests, support their learning and promote positive outcomes.

“Staff meet children’s care needs well to help them feel safe, emotionally secure and confident to learn.

“Staff share warm, caring relationships with the children.

“Children show kindness to others; for example, young children cuddle one another as they wake from their sleep.”

The report also praised the nursery for establishing effective partnerships with parents, external agencies and other early years providers and for the consistent support they receive which contributes to their individual needs effectively.

Staff said they were delighted with the positive report.

Manager at Sunny Days, Jo Parker, said: “I’m really happy with a ‘good’.

“I just want to thank all the staff for their hard work.”

The report also outlined why the nursery is not yet rated as “outstanding”.

It stated: “Management and staff are now clear that the progress check at age two years can be completed any time between a child’s second and third birthday.

“However, they have not fully developed procedures to ensure that the check is carried our or shared when children join the setting at a later date or move between settings.

“Staff do not always organise large group activities or transition times effectively to encourage children to listen and concentrate or to take care of the resources and their environment.”

Jo said that while she knows that being rated outstanding is difficult, that is the nursery’s aim.

She said: “It’s very difficult to get an outstanding, they’re few and far between.

“That would be our ambition to get an outstanding but they are quite tricky to get.”
