TRADITIONS dating back hundreds of years will be celebrated in a west Dorset village this weekend.
Stoke Abbot will host the village’s annual street fair on Saturday - kicking off with the traditional ‘sick club parade’ at 1.45pm - with dates back to 1870.
From 2pm, there will be a range of stalls and live music on offer, including performances by the No Mean Feet dancers, the Miller Street Jazz Band, as well as a children’s fancy dress parade and dressing the well ceremony.
Coordinator Catherine Leech, said: “Each year our street fair raises vital funds for the village and a local charity whilst giving locals and tourists a really enjoyable afternoon.
“Once again, we have a traditional well dressing ceremony, a tradition dating back to the 14th century – all visitors are invited to bring along a small posy of flowers to decorate the village spring and trough with a blessing at 3.30pm.”
Free car parking is available on the road into the village from Beaminster only.
