SIR John Colfox Academy students from Bridport have raised more than £7,000 for charity over the year.

They were being honoured for their achievements at their annual house prize giving event.

Hinomaru House was the overall ‘House Cup’ winner of 2016.

The audience was packed as for the first time ever the whole school came together to share in the giving of the awards and in recognising achievement at personal, tutor group and house level.

Sponsors from local businesses were on hand to give out the trophies and help recognise the student’s achievements.

Hinomaru dominated proceedings and picked up the awards for drama, rowing, tug of war, maths (Daisy Parsons), netball, girl’s football, rounders, hockey, with Daisy Parsons picking up the prize for maths and Daisy Saint for languages.

Chloe Robinson from Adler House picked up the award for science and the house overall for and boys football.

Fleur de Lys won tennis, cross country and sports day awards. Cameron Cumpstone from Toro scooped the award for variety show and Georgia Staal for both music and English. Toro also took honours for rugby and basketball.

Individual prizes were also presented to (Sam Courtice for leadership, Jordan Hallet for best house buddy and Llewelyn Rendall-Davies the community award . The Edge apprentices’ of the year were awarded to Mannie Wellman and Cara Hatch, whilst the ‘graduate’ prizes went to Amber Thomas and Liam Tuck.

The overall prizes for the most house points in each year group went to Kaitlin Jones Year 7, Victoria Crabb Year 8, Tia Houghton Year 9 and Dahlia Twigger Year 10. Victoria was the overall winner with the most house points in the school, a total of 167.

Headteacher, David Herbert, addressed the students and praised them all for their continued commitment to the house system and for their generosity in raising money for charity with more than £7000 being raised for different charities over the year.

He said: "This is such a lovely event that recognises the work of our students.

"Having everyone present made it that bit more special today.

"Other award ceremonies take place in the year which recognise academic achievement, but this one has always been about our house system and some of the ‘fun’ things that happen as part of everyday school life.

"Congratulations to Hinomaru who were worthy winners in our tenth year of the house system, which goes from strength to strength. Commenting on their achievements our Deputy Mayor, Anne Ricard, told the children that our future is in safe hands, I think she is absolutely right."
