A MAN has been arrested after he was found hiding by police following a car chase in rural west Dorset.

Officers from Bridport Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT), along with the NPAS police helicopter were involved in a search of the Marshwood Vale area this morning - which took more than an hour.

The pursuit by officers followed a reported theft of a car from Weymouth on Wednesday morning, and the vehicle had been spotted in Pilsdon, in the Marshwood Vale area of west Dorset.

The vehicle has been recovered by police officers and will be returned to the owner.

A spokeswoman from Dorset Police, said: "We are investigating reports of a stolen vehicle from Weymouth.

"The car was stolen during mid-morning on Wednesday from the Chickerell Road area of the town.

"On Thursday morning, we received reports that the vehicle had been spotted in the Pilsdon area, near Bridport.

"Officers attended and carried out a search with the help of the NPAS police helicopter.

"As a result, a 24-year-old man from Axminster has been arrested on suspicion of taking a vehicle without consent and is currently assisting officers with their enquiries."
