LIFEBOAT volunteers rescued five people after a powerboat broke down near West Bay.

At around 4pm on Sunday, the Lyme Regis RNLI lifeboat was launched.

The powerboat, which broke down two miles east of West Bay, had two men, a woman and two boys on board.

All five were taken aboard the lifeboat when their vessel began to take on water.

The lifeboat crew towed the powerboat to West Bay Harbour when an ambulance was waiting to treat one man for the effects of cold.

The lifeboat returned to Lyme Regis Harbour at 6pm.
