ST Mary’s CE VC Primary School is celebrating its quarter century by recognising community heroes.

Headteacher Helen Farmer said: "We will soon have been at Skilling Hill Road for 25 years – the school was opened in June 1991 – it was opened by the author Dick King Smith and dedicated by the Bishop of Sherborne.

"To celebrate this event we are hosting a Bridport night of honour at Bridport Arts Centre on Thursday October 22015 from 7pm to 9pm.

"Our staff and children are looking for people in our community who you the people of Bridport feel deserve an award for what they have done to help make our town the thriving, bustling, friendly place it is.

"We have several categories of award – and it is your votes that count in getting that person or business recognised."

All winners will be rewarded at the school's Honours Night and nominations have to be in by Wednesday September 30.

The categories the school wants people's votes on include the religious representative of the year, emergency services star of the year, Bridport bravery award for someone who has carried out an act of bravery with no thought for themselves or helped tackle crime and anti-social behaviour in Bridport this year.

Other categories include the Bridport family dining award of the year for the most family friendly venue, the friendliest shop, best sports club, best parent, best community event, best neighbour, best local artist and the Spirit of Bridport award, to be awarded to someone who has shown the true spirit of Bridport.

Pupils at St Mary's will be be voting for their favourite children's activity of the year.

Forms can be obtained from the school or email nominations to office@stmarybridport.dorset.sch.uk
Mrs Farmer added: "Many thanks for your support – we look forward to your thoughts on those special people in our area."
