MORE than £1,500 was raised for charity at a music event in memory of a man who lost his battle with cancer.

Former Ocean Bathrooms employee Paul Wicken was remembered at the annual Bridport event, with money raised for the Weldmar Hospicecare Trust.

Paul died at the age of 36 in 2013, just days before the first event took place.

Director of Ocean Bathrooms Robert Mühl hailed 'A Song for Paul' as another huge success.

He said: "Paul’s mum and dad were happy to be part of it too, knowing that Paul’s name is being remembered in such a way.

"We will never forget Paul and with 'A song for Paul' gaining momentum each year, no-one will be able to forget his name either. He now stands for every loved person we know who has died from cancer or has been cared for in the Weldmar Hospice.

"This day has become a very special day for all of us at Ocean Bathrooms who knew and worked with Paul."

On a scorching hot day, Tinkers Cuss kicked off the live music, with some well-known favourites - before Acoustic Rooster, Shiraz and Gertrude's Golden Gaelic Gherkins took to the stage. Barn Street, The Branded Men and Fragments brought the day to a harmonious end.

Dorset apple cake, lemon drizzle, carrot cake and fruit cake was also on offer following Ocean Bathrooms employees' hard work in the kitchen.

Adam Gale spent three hours of his day clocking up as many miles as he could on a static bike, despite the soaring temperatures. He managed to rack up 59 miles.

"Many local businesses supported us with donations for our raffle, with some lovely prizes" added Mr Mühl. "It was really good to see everyone having fun, spending money and sitting down to listen to the bands.

"I sat down to do a rough count of the money making it a whopping £1,500 and our Justgiving page is still receiving more donations so it will probably end up being more again.

"Thank you so much to everyone who donated their time and music, raffle prizes, who baked cakes, who helped on the stalls. Without the efforts of friends and family and the staff at Ocean Bathrooms, we could not have managed the day. So A huge thank you to all of you."
