CROWDS flocked to West Bay over the weekend for a nostalgic trip to the annual West Dorset vintage rally.

The event organised by the West Dorset Vintage Tractor and Stationary Engine Club raised money for community groups, and enjoyed a bumper turnout.

An auction, which took place on Saturday, had 830 lots on offer as the event once again proved popular.

Bruce Carter, chairman of the West Dorset Vintage Tractor and Stationary Engine Club, said: "We're not sure about the exact numbers, but the car park was as busy as I have seen it for certainly the last three years.

"We had a tremendous weekend and it was very, very busy. We were also very fortunate with the weather on both Saturday and Sunday.

"There seems to be quite an interest in the machines from holiday makers, so it's great that we can host this event at West Bay."

Plans are already in place to make next year's event even bigger.

"Next year is our 40th event and we want to make sure that it is a special occasion" said Mr Carter.

"We want to get in early and make sure we have as many of the top vehicles booked as we can."

Steam engines, tractors and motorcycles were on display, along with demonstrations and ferret racing.
